Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez moved for the passage of a resolution commending Honorable City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy for the successful facilitation and hosting of the visit of 16 European Union Ambassadors to Cagayan de Oro City on January 14, 2026.
Rodriguez emphasized the mayor’s leadership in ensuring the smooth conduct of the delegates’ key activities, most especially the welcome dinner held at Luxe Hotel.
The EU delegates’ visit aimed to explore potential opportunities and partnerships with the city, including discussions on pressing urban concerns such as traffic congestion and other sustainable development initiatives.
As chairperson of the committee on social services, Rodriguez highlighted Cagayan de Oro’s commitment to protecting children and strengthening social services against online sexual abuse and exploitation through the recent enactment of the city’s Anti-Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children Ordinance as well as the Golden Justice Zone Ordinance.
He further expressed gratitude to Mayor Uy for entrusting him and his fellow City Council members to represent the local government during the EU-PH Green LGUs Local Inception Workshop held on January 21–22, 2026.
The workshop provided valuable insights on innovative strategies for solid waste management, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), offering new ideas to address the city’s garbage and environmental challenges.
Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez likewise conveyed her appreciation for the opportunity to engage with the EU Ambassadors.
“I am very grateful to the mayor for this opportunity,” she said, describing the experience as meaningful. She emphasized that the discussions focused on pressing societal concerns and opened doors for solutions that can benefit the city in the near future.
“We came up with new ideas that can help the city moving forward,” VM Bebot added. (JDO/SP)
