Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez questioned whether the Uptown overpass contractor has secured Road Traffic Administration clearance, stressing mandatory coordination with traffic authorities to ensure proper traffic management and public safety.
This after Councilor Eric Salcedo called for the temporary suspension of the construction of the overpass along Masterson Avenue in Uptown, citing road obstruction that has resulted in traffic inefficiency and a potential threat to public safety.
Salcedo pointed out that while the project aims to improve pedestrian safety and convenience, it has significantly disrupted traffic flow and caused inconvenience to motorists and commuters for obstructing the roadway.
Rodriguez explained the protocol for national government projects to be coordinated with local authorities to ensure traffic management and public safety.
The complete obstruction of a roadway is not allowed, particularly when it compromises pedestrian access and safety, he further remarked.
“There should be a pedestrian lane for people to pass through,” he said Councilor Rodriguez.
Following the discussion, the City Council referred the matter to the committee on public works for further investigation. (JDO/SP)
