SP grants franchise to Gusa Sports Complex to operate as Multi-Purpose Ctr, cockpit

THE Cagayan de Oro City Council headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy granted a franchise to the Gusa Sports Complex to operate and maintain a multi-purpose sports center/cockpit for a period of three years.

This is, however, subject to conditions such as the installation of CCTV cameras, as required under Ordinance No. 11075-2008, as amended.

The sports complex is also required to comply with health, sanitary, building and fire safety regulations, environmental and with cockfighting and derby regulations as provided for under the City Codified Ordinance and PD 449, otherwise known as the Cockfighting Law of 1974.

As required under Ordinance No. 12841-2014, the management will also have to hire or engage the services of duly licensed security guards and before operating the said multi-purpose sports center, secure business permit and license from the city government and every year thereafter pay a franchise tax to the city and other applicable fees and taxes.

Even with its franchise, the sports complex will have to apply for derby or special cockfighting permit with the City Council and comply with other requirements as may be imposed under existing laws.

Under the ordinance, the said Multi-Purpose Sports Center/Cockpit shall not be used for any partisan political activity, exhibition of any pornographic materials, or for any illegal purpose.
