Farming equipment turned over to farmers
COUNCILOR Annie Daba, chair of the City Council committee on agriculture and fisheries, with Councilor Jay R. Pascual, City Agriculture Office’s Dr. Hector San Juan, Department of Agriculture (DA) staff with barangay officials last week turned over one unit mechanical corn sheller to the San Isidro community Farmers Association in Salimbal, Barangay Tignapoloan.
It may be recalled that through Ordinance No. 13391-2018, the 18th City Council headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy authorized the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Agriculture-Regional Field Office-10 for the purpose.
The DA is implementing the Corn/Cassava Program in line with the thrust to increase corn and cassava productivity, increase the competitiveness of domestic corn and cassava production and increase farm income, The Power learned.
As part of the MOA, the DA provided a mechanical sheller amounting to P175,000 as a grant to provide services to farmer members and constituents to support their processing activities.
Pursuant to the MOA, the city shall provide a permanent shed for the equipment, among others.
Councilors Daba and Pascual are optimistic that the project will help boost the productivity and livelihood of city farmers.
