City must look into complaints vs landfill project

“ANG tubig mahulog lang kuno kung mag-ulan pero I think the point is kung naay tubig gyud nga gakahulog sa suba, I think it has to be corrected, kay dili man siguro maayo nga ang tubig sa basura mahulog sa suba.”

This was stressed Councilor Nadya Emano-Elipe in her special report during the 64th regular session of the 18th City Council presided over by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy. The lady councilor was referring to the complaint aired by residents against the newly-operated Sanitary Landfill in Barangay Pagalungan.

According to the councilor, the system on how the facility operates should be inspected thoroughly. There is a need to identify the cause of the problem that poses danger to both the livelihood and total health of the people in the area, she added.

“The water might be tolerable now pero wala ta kabalo in the future, it might be affecting Pagalungan lang pero basin modagan nuon ni sa uban pa nga kabarangayan,” she further stressed.

Since this observation was further confirmed and considered by some councilors as a health concern for all, the matter was referred to the City Council Committee of the Whole to be headed by Councilor Ma. Lourdes S. Gaane, chairman of the committee on health, sanitation and health insurance, for further investigation and discussion. (JAO)
