Stop the sale of vulcaseal to minors- Daba

COUNCILOR Reuben R. Daba, chair of the City Council committee on social services, on Tuesday warned establishments against selling vulcaseal to minors.

This, after the committee tackled the complaint of the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) office against a certain hardware at Cogon Market allegedly selling vulcaseal to minors. According to CSWD, this is a violation of the Comprehensive Children’s Welfare Code of Cagayan de Oro City.

During the meeting, a registered social worker of CSWD, who handles street kids involved in vulcaseal sniffing, confirmed that a minor was caught in the act of buying vulca seal from the said hardware. The report was also confirmed by the father of the child, she said.

According to the social worker, the CSWD has intensified its street monitoring at Kauswagan, Gaisano Mall, Cogon, Carmen and Divisoria.

A representative of the hardware said the substance is only sold to carpenters and shoemakers, among others. However, he explained that some of them instruct their children to buy vulca seal.

Councilor Daba said the owner and all other establishments should not let minors buy such substance to prevent the cancellation or revocation of their permits.

The committee will continue to tackle the matter during its next meeting. (JBD)
