SP creates Oversight Committee to monitor implementation of laws

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY legislators headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy will now be monitoring whether ordinances enacted by the City Council are being implemented.

This, with the approval on Monday of Resolution No. 12745-2017, creating an oversight committee that will look into the matter.

The oversight committee is chaired by the vice mayor, who was given the authority to appoint its members.

Councilor Teodulfo E. Lao filed the resolution upon noting that some of the ordinances enacted by the legislative body from previous years are not being implemented.

It may be recalled that last week Councilor Lao aired his concern over this after Councilor Nadya Emano-Elipe reported that some of the city’s athletes, who won medals in national and international competitions, have not received cash incentives from the city government as provided for under a city ordinance.

Councilor Elipe said those who top board examinations have also not received cash incentives from the city.

Ordinance No. 13064-2017 grants cash incentive award to topnotchers in Philippine Government Professional Board/Licensure or Bar examinations.

Councilor Lao said it is imperative for the City Council to monitor the implementation of ordinances as these are vital tools in addressing problems of citizens and promoting the general welfare and development of the city.
