Strengthening of brgy police sought
COUNCILOR Teodulfo E. Lao on Monday stressed that the city should intensify the drive against criminality by organizing the barangay police.
During the regular session presided over by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy, Councilor Lao reiterated the need for the city mayor to convene the Barangay Tanod Development Committee.
“The barangay police will plan out how to empower the barangay tanods by giving them exact uniforms, honorarium, incentives, whatever we could give to them so they will be active partners,” he said.
“If they are visible in every street corner then we could have a very peaceful city,” Lao cited, as he expressed concern over the lack of police visibility in Cagayan de Oro.
He proposed that the P2,000 each monthly incentive of the COCPO personnel, be given to the barangay police instead.
Vice Mayor asked Councilor Lao to submit his proposal for study.
The suggestion of the councilor was in response to the special report of Councilor Edna M. Dahino regarding the rape and murder of Cherry Mae Dayo last week.
Legislators adopted a resolution denouncing and condemning the crime and urging authorities to exhaust all means to get justice for the victim.
