Proposed ordinance allowing religious, cultural attire in schools set for discussion

The City Council committee on education, chaired by Councilor Jing Y. Daba IV, will deliberate on the proposed ordinance, allowing the wearing of religious and cultural garments in academic institutions.

The proposed measure is anchored on Article III, Section 5 of the 1987 Constitution, as well as Department of Education Order No. 32, s. 2013, and other pertinent laws.

Authored by Congressman Maximo T. Rodriguez III, the proposed ordinance covers all public and private schools within the city’s jurisdiction.

It upholds the right of students to wear religious and cultural attire as part of their daily school dress, provided that such garments do not hinder their full participation in academic activities or on safety and hygiene.

Under the proposal, religious garments refer to clothing worn in observance of one’s faith, including but not limited to hijabs, turbans, veils, and yarmulkes.

Cultural garments, on the other hand, pertain to traditional attire that reflects an individual’s cultural identity and heritage. (JAO/SP)

Proposed city accountancy school ordinance up for discussion

The proposed ordinance establishing the Cagayan de Oro City Accountancy School (CDOCAS) as a public institution for accountancy education will be taken up by the City Council committee on education, chaired by Councilor Moreno Y. Daba IV.

The proposed school is envisioned as a permanent learning institution focused on delivering high-quality accountancy education that produces graduates who meet national licensure standards and contribute to public service, local governance, and economic growth.

Under the measure, the Bachelor of Science in Accountancy program will aim to develop technically proficient and ethically grounded professionals, prepare students for the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination, and promote public accountability and fiscal discipline.

It will adopt outcomes-based education and undergo regular review to ensure alignment with evolving professional and regulatory standards, The Gavel learned. (JAO/SP)

Out of school youth gihatagan prayoridad ni Sacala

PADAYONG naningkamot si Konsehal Kenneth John Sacala, chairman sa komite sa youth and sports development, nga mahatagan sa kaarangan ug mapalambo ang serbisyo alang sa mga Out of School Youth (OSY) sa dakbayan.

Sa programa sa radyo niadtong Mierkoles nga Ang Konseho Karon, gitaho sa konsehal ang ilang gipahigayon nga strategic planning di pa lang dugay diin lakip sa ilang gihatagan og atensyon ang kabatan-onang  wala na mag-eskwela kon Out of School Youth.

Sumala ni Sacala nga sa maong panagtigom kauban nila ang Out of School Development Alliance nga gilangkoban sa nagkalain laing buhatan nga adunay mga programa sa kabatan-onan ug ilang gitutokan ang kasamtangan ug umaabot pang programa sa kabatan-onan nga maghatag kaarangan sa ilang kinabuhi.
