Urban Poor cmte bats to extend grace period for socialized lot payment

The Committee on Urban and Rural Poor and Housing Development chaired by Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas has recommended extending from one to five years the grace period for the payment of awarded lots to occupant-beneficiaries of the City’s socialized housing program.

The committee made this endorsement as an offshoot of the request of Mr. Roberto A. Bolong, ISLACUPA President and Mr. Nonila C. Namata, CDOSHP2 HOA President, of Barangay Consolacion, to amend Ordinance 14248-2022, which prescribes the grounds for cancellation of awards granted to beneficiaries, in all socialized housing projects owned and managed by the city government.

Both homeowners presidents called for the protection of the beneficiaries who might risk losing their awarded lots due to the stringent provisions of Ordinance 14248-2022.

The proposed amendment, they believe, would provide a lifeline to families to meet their financial obligation through manageable installment payments.
