Suan to push for establishment of Pamantasan ng CdeO in Mambuaya

Cites alarming data on number of OSY in hinterland barangays

LACK of education in far-flung barangays stunts the personal and professional growth of residents, thus their potentials are untapped.

Citing this, Councilor Aga G. Suan filed an ordinance establishing the Pamantasan ng Cagayan de Oro, a free college university for Kagay-anons that will prioritize residents of hinterland barangays.

The councilor submitted alarming data that shows the number of out-of-school youth in the barangays of Bayanga, Mambuaya, Dansolihon, Tignapoloan, Bisigan, Pagalungan, Tagpangi, Taglimao, Tuburan, Pisgag-an and Tumpagon.

It was observed that out-of-school youth in the hinterland barangays areas are married at earlier ages, became pregnant. The same has been the pattern and culture passed from parents being uneducated themselves to their children, as cited in the proposed ordinance.

The councilor said Section I Article XIV of the 1987 Philippine Constitution mandates that the state shall protect and promote the right of all citizens to qualify education at all levels and shall take appropriate steps to make such education accessible to all.

For accessibility reasons, Councilor Suan proposed that the Pamantasan ng Cagayan de Oro be established in Barangay Mambuaya. It will envision to awaken the hidden potentials of residents in hinterland barangays and to pave the way for Kagay-anons to have a first world level of success and quality of life. (SP/ APDelgra)
