SP approves Anti-OSAEC ordinance
THE 20th City Council during its regular session on Monday, presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, has enacted a landmark ordinance localizing Republic Act 11930 or the “Anti-Online Sexual Abuse or Exploitation of Children (OSAEC) and Anti-Child Sexual Abuse or Exploitation Materials (CSAEM) Act.”
The ordinance, introduced by Councilors Joyleen Mercedes L. Balaba, Ian Mark Q. Nacaya, and Romeo V. Calizo, aims to protect children from the dangers of unsafe internet use and prevent online abuse and exploitation.
The ordinance applies to all households, internet service providers, businesses government agencies, and facilities within Cagayan de Oro City. It mandates strict penalties for violators and provides a supportive environment for survivors.
In his letter to the City Council, Mayor Rolando A. Uy emphasized the urgency of the ordinance, highlighting the rise in online child abuse cases and the city’s commitment to safeguarding children’s safety and well-being.
Violations of any prohibited acts under this ordinance shall be charged and penalized under RA 11930, The Gavel learned.
The legislation, certified as urgent by Mayor Uy, was unanimously approved by the City Council.
