COUNCILOR Marlo Tabac vowed to fast-track the review of pending barangay ordinances, assuring the barangay officials that their requests will receive prompt action from the City Council.
This followed after Barangay Lumbia Councilor Aerol Torralba revealed during the committee’s first meeting that their barangay is still using a 2010 Revenue Code, with no updates made in the past 14 years.
Jesus Pablo Dablio, representing the City Treasurer’s Office, reported that the Local Finance Committee already forwarded its recommendations on Lumbia’s tax code to the City Legal Office (CLO).
With this, Torralba appealed to the committee to facilitate the ordinance’s approval, saying that, with the possibility of barangay elections drawing near, the measure risks being archived and delayed further.
Councilor Tabac, in his capacity as committee chair, pledged to act on the legislative backlogs without delay.
“I will personally follow up with the City Legal Office regarding pending barangay ordinances that require its legal opinion,” Tabac said, noting that the several proposals had already been deferred pending CLO recommendations.
Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez also urged the CLO representative to review documents ahead of scheduled meetings to avoid delays and to come prepared to respond to questions from other invited resource persons.
Tabac reiterated that, under his leadership, all barangay requests would be acted upon swiftly. (FDC/SP)
