SP accredits 3 CSOs for CDC’s Committee on People’s Org

THE 20th City Council, in its Monday regular session, adopted a resolution accrediting three more Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) for purposes of their membership in the Committee on People’s Organization of the City Development Council.

The CSOs include the Deaf Association of Misamis Oriental (DAMOR) Incorporated, Tignapoloan Environmental Conservation and Communal Garden Association (TECCGA), and Bayanga Integrated Social Forestry Farmers Association, Inc. (BAISFFA).

The accreditation is pursuant to Ordinance No. 14334-2022, entitled: “An Ordinance Strengthening Participatory Governance in the City of Cagayan de Oro through the empowerment of civil society organizations by establishing a Committee on People’s Organization in the City Development Council (CDC), prescribing its powers and functions, and providing for their participation in the local special bodies and various boards, councils, task forces, and similar groups.”

A people’s organization refers to an association of residents in a barangay or barangays, or persons belonging to a particular group or sector, established to promote public interest and with an identifiable leadership structure and membership. It is often formed among the disadvantaged sectors of society, such as the farmer-peasant, artisanal fisher folk, workers in the formal sector, and migrant workers, among others.

The legislation was reviewed and endorsed by the Committees on Planning, Research and Innovation and People’s Organization Accreditation, chaired by Councilor Ian Mark Q. Nacaya, and on Laws and Rules, chaired by Councilor Edgar S. Cabanlas.
