Pascual hails farmers as community heroes, highlights organic farming
City Councilor Juancho R. Pascual hailed farmers as community heroes for their role in food production and highlighted the importance of organic farming in promoting safer food and healthier communities.
Pascual, chairperson of the committee on agriculture, fisheries, and aquatic resources, made the remarks during the graduation ceremony of the Farmer Field School on Season-Long Organic Vegetable Production for 38 farmers from Sitio Caban-caban in Barangay Tablon.
The four-month course was facilitated by the City Agricultural Productivity Operations Office (APOO), in partnership with the Kiapo Umalag Farmers Irrigators Association (KUFIA), the TESDA Provincial Training Center, and other program partners.
He described the farmers’ completion of the course as an achievement for the participants and a step forward in promoting organic farming in Cagayan de Oro City.
The training equipped participants with practical skills in cultivating vegetables such as eggplant, okra, and string beans, as well as three varieties of watermelon, to support sustainable farming and local food production.
Recognizing their contributions to the community, Pascual said, “Salute to our hardworking farmers! Kamo ang tunay nga bayani sa atong komunidad.”
He also called for continued support for farmers, saying, “Padayon kita sa pagsuporta sa atong mga mag-uuma!” (PGU/SP)
