In celebration of Nutrition Month, City Councilor Paolo Nicolo Gaane joined the community in marking the 52nd Nutrition Month celebration with the theme “Nutrition at Kalikasan Pangangalagaan”.

Councilor Gaane, in his message to the public, highlighted the National Nutrition Council’s (NNC) remark that protecting the environment is connected to protecting the nation’s nutrition.

“The NNC wants us to understand that a healthy environment means well-nourished people,” said Gaane, adding that when ecosystems are cared for, families have better access to safe and nutritious food.

According to Councilor Gaane, the NNC reiterated steps that residents can take to support health, that includes: eat balanced diet, choose locally-grown, seasonal foods to support farmers, reduce food waste, support and maintain home gardens, and promote breastfeeding as a foundation for infant nutrition and health.

As committee chair of health, nutrition, and health insurance and fellow health professional, Gaane assured support to programs and policies that protect nutrition and ensure that environmental stewardship is part of health strategy.

The councilor also expressed gratitude to the nutrition volunteers and barangay workers whose efforts help deliver services and nutrition education at the grassroots level.

“I thank our nutrition volunteers. Your dedication does not go unnoticed,” remarked Gaane. (JBD/SP)
