Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez, chair of the consumer protection committee, supported the ordinance requiring public and private market vendors and other business establishments engaged in retail transactions to use duly calibrated or verified digital or electronic weighing scales.

The said ordinance, authored by Councilor George Christopher Goking, aims to protect every peso that consumers spend in the market by modernizing local markets.

Rodriguez echoed his support for the said measure, noting it underwent a series of committee hearings and consultations with key stakeholders, including representatives from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) led by DTI Misamis Oriental Provincial Director Jesusa Abear, members of the business sector, and vendors from the city's public markets.

He pointed out that calibrated digital devices also level off the ground, especially in fair trade practices.

Rodriguez commended Goking for championing the ordinance, describing it as a measure that strengthens consumer protection and promotes fair trade practices in the city. (JDO/SP)
