Dahino affirms support for solo parents at culmination activity

Councilor Des Dahino, chairperson of the women and family relations committee, expressed her unwavering support for solo parents during the culmination activity of the Solo Parents Week held on April 27 at the City Tourism Hall.

The event gathered around 500 solo parents from various barangays across the city, highlighting the community’s recognition of their resilience and vital role in society.

Dahino thanked the organizers for the invitation and took the opportunity to commend the attendees for their strength and perseverance.

“Katawa ta. Pahuway ta. Celebrate ta. Kay bisan unsa pa inyong giagian, tan-awa kung unsa mo ka lig-on karon. Solo parent, oo. Pero dili gyud solo,” Dahino said, encouraging participants to find joy, rest, and pride in their journey.

The activity emphasized the importance of celebrating the strength, love, and resilience of solo parents, while reaffirming the government’s continued support for their welfare.

As part of the program, participants attended an orientation on key policies and benefits under the Expanded Solo Parent Welfare Act.

Discussions covered the automatic coverage of solo parents and their children under the National Health Insurance Program, VAT exemptions, updated guidelines on housing assistance, and various programs and services available to solo parents. (SPE/SP)
