The 20th City Council, in its regular session on Monday, has unanimously approved a resolution urging Branch 41 of the Regional Trial Court to expedite its decision on the case questioning the intervention of the Local Water Utilities Administration (LWUA) in the management of the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD).

The resolution, introduced by Councilor James K. Judith II, emphasizes the urgency of resolving the legal dispute, citing concerns over local autonomy, due process, and the stability of water services in the city.
The prolonged uncertainty regarding COWD’s management, the resolution states, has led to confusion, operational disruptions, and diminished public confidence in the water district’s leadership.
Judith, a staunch advocate against LWUA’s intervention, reiterated the need for a decisive stance. He pointed out that despite the intervention, which ended on November 28, 2024, there has been no final ruling on the matter.
The resolution asserts that the court's prompt decision is necessary to ensure clarity, stability, and the continued efficient delivery of water services to the residents of Cagayan de Oro.
The Council strongly urged the judiciary to prioritize the resolution of the case in the interest of public welfare and service. (JAOclarit/SP)
