CdeO leaders backs stronger local governance reforms

Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy, Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez, Councilor Kenneth Sacala, and City DILG Director Ellaine Josephine Depaur reaffirmed their commitment to responsive and people-centered governance during the 1st Local Governance Reform Convention on the Review and Amendment Program for the Local Government Code of 1991.
The convention, spearheaded by the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) under the leadership of Regional Director Bruce A. Colao and Assistant Regional Director Yvette Tolentino-Sunga, gathered local officials and stakeholders from across the region to discuss vital reforms aimed at strengthening local government systems.

Dr. Alan Aladano, senior researcher of the Center for Inclusive Development Studies, presented an overview of priority reform areas and emerging issues gathered from regional consultations.
Key discussions also focused on major reform areas under the Local Government Code of 1991, including local autonomy and good governance discussed by Prof. Edmund Tayao, President and CEO of Political Economic Elemental Researchers and Strategies and Chairman of LOGODEF; fiscal and financial reforms by DBM-10 Regional Director Nonito H. Dela Cruz; service delivery and devolution by DepDev-X Regional Director Mylah Faye Aurora Cariño; and administrative and institutional reforms by Director III Atty. Cosette Maglasang-Mundo representing CSC-X Regional Director Noemi Rabe-Torres.
The convention also featured discussions on major reform areas under the Local Government Code, including local autonomy and good governance, fiscal and financial reforms, service delivery and devolution, and administrative and institutional reforms.
The gathering served as a platform to advance policy reforms that aim to improve public service delivery and build more responsive, accountable, and effective local government institutions.
