The 21st City Council, headed by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, joined City Mayor Rolando “Klarex” Uy and other government officials at the grand launch of the Higalaay Festival 2026 on August 6 at the Rio de Oro Boulevard.
The grand launching marked the start of the city’s month-long celebration in honor of its patron saint, Señor San Agustin, featuring around 58 events composed of core, major, minor, and parallel activities.
Anchored on this year’s theme, “Our Pride, Our Gift, Our Guide,” the festival celebrates Cagayan de Oro’s rich culture and heritage, vibrant community spirit, and the enduring values that bring Kagay-anons and visitors together.

One of the highlights of the event was the official unveiling of the new “Love CDO” Higalaay theme song, accompanied by a community dance led by city government officials and department managers.
The celebration also featured the symbolic “Bulawanong Lamano” (Golden Handshake) led by Mayor Klarex, Vice Mayor Bebot, and 2nd District Congressman Rufus Rodriguez. The gesture highlighted the city’s identity as the City of Golden Friendship, symbolizing unity, camaraderie, and the city’s warm welcome to residents and visitors.
The Higalaay Festival 2026 will continue throughout the month, bringing together various cultural, religious, entertainment, sports, and community activities that showcase the best of Cagayan de Oro and the spirit of friendship that defines its people. (JDO/SP)
