BF1KD mother-to-mother support group ordinance gets green light
THE 21st City Council, headed by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, enacted an ordinance institutionalizing the mother-to-mother support groups of Barangays First 1,000 Days (BF1KD) and mandate the provision of nutrition-specific interventions for pregnant women and children aged 0-59 months.
The BF1KD Program aims to establish a support group, which will serve as a community-based approach to support maternal and child health.
It will link Barangay Health Workers (BHW), Barangay Nutrition Scholars (BNS), volunteers, and mothers in a sustained, citywide network to improve maternal and child health outcomes.
Under the said measure, the City Health Office, in coordination with the City Nutrition Council (CNC), City Breastfeeding Infant and Young Child Feeding Task Force (BFIYCFTF) and the Nutrition Office, shall mobilize BHWs and BNSs and provide them with resources and benefits to carry out their tasks.
The program also seeks to improve exclusive breastfeeding rates, earlier detection and treatment of growth hesitancy, reduced wasting, and stronger community resilience through peer support.
The legislative measure was reviewed and endorsed by the committees on health, nutrition, and health insurance, and on laws and rules chaired by Councilors Paolo Nicolo Gaane and Edgar S. Cabanlas, respectively. (JBD/SP)
