City to ink pact with DA for spring development in Besigan
THE 18th City Council on its regular session last Monday presided by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy enacted an ordinance authorizing Mayor Oscar S. Moreno to enter into and sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Department of Agriculture-Regional Office 10 covering the grant to the city of one unit Spring Development for use in Barangay Besigan.
The DA-RFO 10 is implementing the High Value Crops Development Program (HVCD) to enhance agricultural productivity and production and as a strategy of realizing the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Plan (AFMP), The Power learned.
One component of the HVCD program is the provision of Spring Development amounting to P600,000 to qualified farmer organization/local government unit.
Under the MOA, DA RFO 10 shall procure the spring development to support the production of vegetables and other high value seedlings in the region, provide this to the city as full grant, conduct periodic monitoring and evaluation to ascertain the progress/accomplishment of the project, among others.
For its part, the city shall provide all the support towards the conduct of the project and direct all its efforts toward accomplishing the purposes as agreed. It shall, likewise, ensure the maintenance and sustainability of the Spring Development at least five years from the date of the establishment and operate the project in accordance with its objectives and purpose.
The legislation was endorsed by the committees on agriculture and fisheries and on laws and rules respectively chaired by Councilors Annie Y. Daba and Ian Mark Q. Nacaya. (JAO)
