SP passes Integrated Ecological Solid Waste Management Law


THE Integrated Ecological Solid Waste Management Law of Cagayan de Oro was approved by the 18th City Council during its 72nd regular session Monday presided over by Vice-Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy.


The ordinance is in in line with R.A. 9003, otherwise known as Ecological Waste Management Act of 2003, which provides for an ecological solid waste management program and creates the necessary institutional mechanisms and incentives.


The ordinance provides for the mandatory segregation, collection and transport of solid wastes, the establishment of sanitary landfill, maintenance of clean and sanitary surroundings, and junk shop operation, among others.


The 10-year solid waste management plan shall be implemented in accordance with the implementation schedule, strategies and guidelines contained in the said plan as adopted and approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod, and shall be updated every three years.

The ordinance was proposed by Councilors Zaldy Ocon and Edna Dahino.


It was reviewed and favorably endorsed by the committees on environment and natural resources and on laws and rules chaired by Councilors Ocon and Ian Mark Nacaya, respectively. (EF)
