Dads push for implementation of P4.2B drainage project

EXHAUSTING all measures to avert flooding in Cagayan de Oro, the 18th City Council during its regular session Monday presided over by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy adopted Resolution No. 12626-2017, requesting Senate President Aquilino Martin “Koko” Pimentel to allocate funds for the construction of water channels or drainage systems in Cagayan de Oro City.

Councilors Zaldy O. Ocon, Teodulfo Lao, Jr., Edna M. Dahino, Romeo V. Calizo, Suzette Magtajas-Daba, Annie Y. Daba, Jay R. Pascual and Reuben R. Daba filed the resolution in response to the recommendation of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Regional Office No. 10.

It may be recalled that the committee on public works chaired by Councilor Ocon invited the DPWH and other agencies to discuss the DPWH’s comprehensive report on infrastructure plans and projects for Cagayan de Oro, and other concerns relative to flooding.

As a corollary measure, legislators also adopted Resolution No. 12627-2017, requesting President Rodrigo R. Duterte to allocate funds for the construction of water channels or drainage systems in the city in the amount of P4.2 billion to abate perennial flooding in flood-prone areas in the city as suggested by Councilor Teodulfo E. Lao, Jr.

The City Council also approved Resolution No. 12628-2017, requesting Senator Pimentel III to make representation with President Duterte and personally follow up the request for the allocation of P4.2 billion for the drainage project.

Councilor Nacaya is the proponent of the resolution.
