Rodriguez abstains on ₱8.5-B government complex financing
Councilor Jonjon Rodriguez abstained from voting on the proposed resolution authorizing Mayor Rolando A. Uy to negotiate with financial and banking institutions to finance the proposed ₱8.5 billion Cagayan de Oro Government Complex in Barangay Carmen.
For Rodriguez, such a significant proposal should not be rushed, particularly without complete and sufficient information.

“Nag-abstain ko kay dili kompleto akong facts and information,” he said in an interview with the media after the session.
Rodriguez further explained that he could not responsibly vote for or against the said measure without first hearing and reviewing the information discussed during the committee deliberations.
Rodriguez clarified that his abstention should not be interpreted as opposition to the proposed development.
“We also welcome a big development for the city—economic, social, and new building,” he said.
However, given the magnitude of the proposal scrutinizing and understanding its details and the facts surrounding it before taking a definitive position is necessary, he maintained.
During the deliberation, Councilors Yvy Emano, Imee Moreno, and Aga Suan voted against the resolution. Members of the majority bloc voted in favor. (JDO/SP)
