Pascual backs installation of welcome arches

Councilor Jay R. Pascual said the city government has already allocated a total of P6 million for the installation of welcome arches both for the eastern and western entry points of the city. This is in reaction to the special report of Councilor James K. Judith II relative to his proposal on the matter during the regular session Monday presided over by Vice Mayor Jocelyn B. Rodriguez.

“We already have P6 million budget for the welcome arches. Kanang isa ka side, sa Iponan and Opol, is P4.3 million ang gigahin para ana lang na area. Gani nag additional pa ta’g two million para ibutang sa Bugo na side and we already have designs for that,” the councilor cited.

According to the councilor, the project was just put on hold for quite some time because the city is yet to apply some revisions to the design to conform to the ongoing infrastructure works done specifically on the Iponan-Opol side.

The revised version of the welcome arch designs will still have to be approved by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for finality, he said.

“Nalangan lang gyud siya kay ang Opol na side naa’y gi construct so we have to alter our design and …. dapat ipa-approve balik sa DPWH na in-charge of highways… we cannot build structures na dili ta mananghid sa DPWH. Naa na sa DPWH (ang designs) ato lang i-follow up, so approved na na sya, for implementation na lang,” Pascual further explained.

In line with this, the councilor said he will invite the City Tourism Office to his committee and present the proposed welcome arch designs for further study and consideration by the Council.
