COUNCILOR Yevonna Yacine B. Emano, chair of the City Council committee on senior citizens, called on the elderly in the city to register in the National Commission of Senior Citizens (NCSC) database.

“Isa ni sa kalihokan sa NCSC nga tanan senior citizens paga-aghaton nga mag-sign up sa mao nga page para help pud ni siya sa PSA (Philippine Statistics Authority) ug sa atong national government para ma-account og insakto kung pila na gyud ug pila’y mga edad sa atong population.
All senior citizens aged 60 years old and older can register through the NCSC website at www.ncsc.gov.ph.
The lady councilor made her pronouncement during the 112th regular session of the 20th City Council presided over by Vice Mayor Bebot Rodriguez, as she informed the public, especially the senior citizens, on their benefits under the Expanded Centenarian Act of 2024.
Under the law, a senior citizen who reaches the ‘milestone age’ (80 to 90 years old) will be given an incentive of ₱10,000, while the centenarian (100 years old) will receive ₱100,000 from the national government plus ₱100,000 from the city government of Cagayan de Oro.
Councilor Emano said the Office of Senior Citizens Affairs (OSCA) and the City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD) are requesting senior citizens who are interested to in claiming the incentive to comply with the requirements four to six months ahead of their milestone age.
“Katong mga ages 79 years old pwede na mag-apply,” she announced, encouraging them to visit the NCSC website for the list of requirements and other information.
Councilor Emano also clarified that not all senior citizens who reached their milestone age will receive the incentive because the law does not apply retrospectively.
The incentives from last year, March 17 – December 31, may already be claimed; however the beneficiaries will have to be waitlisted because the budget for the milestone incentive is for 2025, she further pointed out. (JBDacer/SP)
