Calizo thanks Kagay-anons, float and civic-military parade peaceful

Councilor Romeo V. Calizo, chair of the City Council Committee on Public Order and Safety, expressed his appreciation to all Cagayanons for keeping Higalaay Festival 2023 celebration generally peaceful and in order. As the co-chair of the Committee on Float and Civic Military Parade, one of the core events for this year’s fiesta activities, Calizo said he is very grateful for the public’s cooperation by letting some hours go by without signal during the said activity held on August 27, 2023.

The modified signal jamming was implemented not just for the float and civic-military parade but also during other major activities such as the rhythmic field demonstration, street dancing competition, fluvial, and religious procession, respectively held on August 25, 27, and 28. Some areas and venues and other nearby areas identified by the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) had no signal for the whole duration of the foregoing events.

Based on experience, the temporary blocking of the signal was a proven effective security measure that kept the City’s peace and order over the past Higalaay Festival celebrations.

Other restrictions observed by Cagayanons during the above-mentioned street activities were the prohibition of wearing sunglasses, ball caps, carrying backpacks, and using umbrellas, The Gavel learned.
