MOA with DA for farming equipment up for review


VICE Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy referred to the City Council committee on agriculture chaired by Councilor Annie Y. Daba for appropriate action the proposed Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) to be entered into by and between the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the city for one unit mechanical sheller.


This is in line with the thrust of the DA to promote RA 8435, otherwise known as the Agriculture and Fisheries Modernization Act (AFMA). The program aims to strengthen the agriculture and fisheries sector through modernization, greater participation among farmers’ cooperative, fisherfolks and non-government organizations.


The Power learned that the DA is implementing the corn and cassava program to increase productivity and competitiveness of domestic corn and cassava production and increase far income.


Pursuant to the MOA, the farm mechanization component of the program includes the procurement of 35 units mechanical corn sheller to be granted to qualified beneficiaries in the different growing areas in the country. The total project amounts to P6.1 million.

Under the MOA, the city shall provide a permanent shed for the equipment, utilize the mechanical sheller in accordance with its intended use and ensure the maintenance and sustainable operation of the project and its maximum utilization.
