Gaane backs programs of AIDS Council

COUNCILOR Maria Lourdes S. Gaane, chair of the City Council committee on health and sanitation and health insurance, expressed her support to the programs and projects of the Local Aids Council (LAC) as the role of the city government in response to the campaign against HIV and AIDS.


Councilor Gaane yesterday convened the council to discuss the LAC’s budget for 2018.

The LAC is chaired by the city mayor with Councilor Gaane as co-chair.


Members of the LAC are representatives of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG), Department of Education (DepEd-10), Department of Health (DOH-10), City Health Office, City Social Welfare and Development (CSWD), Northern Mindanao AIDS Advocates (NORMAA) Inc., Misamis Oriental-Cagayan de Oro Aids Network (MOCAN) and K-Plus.


PROPOSALS


During the budget deliberation, City Health Officer Dr. Fe Bongcas proposed that more members be included in the LAC.


A representative of NORMAA suggested an increase in its budget for quarterly trainings, seminars and general assembly.


Boyet Martinez of the City Health Insurance Office (CHIO) suggested that members itemize their proposals so that their projects and programs can be identified and budgeted.


Dr. Joey Retuya of the City Health Office assured that the proposals of the members will be adopted by the LAC.

After thorough deliberation, the LAC came up with a budget of P2.5 million for 2018.

Councilor Gaane urged each member to submit the program of works of their projects, which will be incorporated and submitted during the budget deliberations of the Local Finance Committee (LFC). (JBD)
