Cmte inviting water suppliers to invest in Oro - Lao

COUNCILOR Teodulfo E. Lao, Jr., chair of the City Council committee on public utilities, said the committee is inviting willing suppliers to invest in the city.

In his reaction to the special report of Councilor Roger Abaday regarding the poor services of the Cagayan de Oro Water District (COWD), Councilor Lao expressed optimism this will address persistent water problems in some areas of the city.

“A lot of suppliers are willing to come here but it depends on the approval of the city mayor,” he cited.

The councilor reported that during the meeting last week, a representative said the COWD was not able to pay its balance from the Cagayan de Oro Bulk Water Inc. (COBI), for three months, thus the latter is hesitant to release water regularly purchased.

COWD also cannot afford to rehabilitate defective pipes at this time, he added.

Lao assured that the committee will again be inviting the local water district during its next meeting.
