Health cmte acts on petition of Cugman folk

THE City Council committee on health and sanitation and health insurance chaired by Councilor Maria Lourdes Gaane is set to convene on Thursday, March 22, 2018 at 9:00 a.m.at the City Council Session Hall.

The committee will continue discussions on the petition of residents regarding air pollution concerns and the lack of proper drainage system at Zone 2A, Barangay Cugman. According to the residents, the construction and development of a private business establishment causes flooding during heavy rains.

It may be recalled that the committee held initial discussions with Cugman Barangay Chair Ricardo Pacheco and the owner of the establishment on the matter.

Barangay Chair Pacheco said the complaint was already referred to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR). However, he said, the DENR has not yet furnished the barangay with its findings and the results of the inspection.

According to the owner, the establishment is located below Malasag. It is a catch basin of Malasag and the elevation of the area is lower than the national highway, he said. He suggested that the city constructs a big drainage from Zone 2 to the river, citing that the area was badly affected by typhoon Vinta.

Councilor Gaane invited Mr. Marvin Ramos, principal of Cugman National High School, Engr. Armen Cuenca, OIC of City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO), representatives of the City Engineering Office and City Building Official (OBO), and some residents and teachers of Cugman National High School to attend the scheduled meeting. The councilor said the committee will first hear the sentiments of concerned parties on the complaint.

After the meeting, Councilor Gaane said the committee will conduct an ocular inspection to determine the actual situation in the area. (JBD)
