CONTAMINATION
During the meeting Thursday, barangay chair Rodolfo Nacario of San Simon reported about the alleged leakage coming from the landfill. He alleged that this caused the skin diseases of some residents.
Oliver Egypto of Task Force Solid Waste Management and Elvisa Mabelin, head of the Solid Waste Division of CLENRO, however, informed the committee that there is no leakage.
According to them, a storm drainage has been constructed at the landfill as observed by officials of San Simon during their inspection.
Representatives of CLENRO said tests conducted at the Iponan River showed that the water quality is normal. However, a high level of fecal coliform was noted.
The fecal coliform did not come from the sanitary landfill but from the households living in the area, clarified CLENRO officials.
