SP earmarks P49M for just payment of lots affected by reloc site, eco-park projects

THE 18th City Council during its 62nd regular session last Monday presided over by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy, enacted an ordinance appropriating P25.6 million to be made available for the full payment of the claim for just compensation and for registration and documentation expenses of a lot in Barangay Lumbia, which was acquired by the city for resettlement site/land banking purposes, eco-park and other facilities.

Legislators likewise enacted an ordinance appropriating P23.7 million for the payment of just compensation of various properties in Barangays Canitoan and Pagatpat, which were acquired by the city for resettlement purposes.

The payment of the claim is in line with the provision of the Philippine Constitution that private properties shall not be taken for public use without just compensation. It further requires the city to ensure the owner of a real property acquired for government infrastructure projects are promptly paid just compensation, The Power learned.

The legislations were reviewed by the committees on finance, budget and appropriations and on laws and rules chaired by Councilors Edna M. Dahino and Ian Mark Q. Nacaya, respectively. (JAO)
