Dads authorize MOA with Nestle for Eco-Brick project

THE city will soon have another way to recycle wastes.

The City Council headed by Vice Mayor Raineir Joaquin V. Uy during its regular session Monday presided over by Acting Vice Mayor Lordan Suan enacted an ordinance authorizing Mayor Oscar S. Moreno to enter into and sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Nestle Philippines, Inc., and the Green Antz Builders, Inc., for the implementation of the Eco-Brick Program.

The parties have agreed to work together for the construction and development of eco-brick hubs, or facilities where ecobricks will be produced with the cooperation of the local community.

PROVISIONS

The MOA provides that the city shall identify areas where four ecobrick hubs will be established and provide the necessary land and space where these will be installed.

The city government will also provide 50-percent of the investment for the establishment of three ecobrick hubs, identify and organize cooperatives, associations and organizations that will operate the ecobrick hub and launch a collection and recycling campaign in the city.

For its part, Nestle Philippines shall provide financial support to the project, assist in marketing and creating demand for ecobricks and support the collection and recycling, among others.

Meanwhile, Green Antz shall be responsible for the proper management of the ecobrick hubs. The company shall ensure that the land and space identified for the establishment of the ecobrick hubs are free to use and that all consents, permits, and authorizations have been obtained. It shall, likewise, set up an administrative and financial control system and train the team to adopt an effective operational control and maintenance management system.

The MOA was reviewed and favorably endorsed by the committees on finance, budget and appropriations and on laws and rules chaired by Councilors Edna M. Dahino and Ian Mark Nacaya, respectively.
