Curfew Law of Agusan under review
THE Barangay Ordinance of Agusan imposing curfew hours within its territorial jurisdiction was favorably endorsed by the City Council committee on barangay affairs chaired by Councilor Yan Lam Lim to the City Legal Office for legal opinion.
The ordinance imposes curfew hours for minors below 18 years old between 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM and for individuals ages 19 years old and above between 11:00 PM to 4:00 AM.
According to the barangay council, this is in line with the policy to require constituents to stay indoors on specified time at night to maintain public order, to prevent occurrence of crimes and to strengthen parental responsibility.
The barangay ordinance cites that the proliferation of juvenile delinquency and crime among adults during night time has become rampant. It was observed that many individuals wander and engage in nocturnal activities.
The barangay ordinance provides that any person who violates the Curfew Law for the first time shall be reprimanded. For the second offense, they will be required to render community service.
For the third offense, violators will have to pay P200 and render four hours of community service and P500 with eight hours of community service for the fourth offense. (JBD)
