Daba backs establishment of Bahay Pag-asa in Puerto
THE request of the City Social Welfare and Development Depatment (CSWD) for a City Council resolution supporting for the construction, operation and maintenance of BahayPag-asa will be acted upon by the City Council committee on social services chaired by Councilor Reuben R. Daba.
In an interview with The Power, Councilor Daba said the project is one of the priorities of his committee. He assured that this will be tackled as soon as possible and will be referred to the Local Finance Committee (LFC) for the issuance of Certificate of Availability of Funds (CAF).
In his letter request to the committee, Acting CSWD Officer Teddy Sabuga-a said his office requested from the national government, through Juvenile Justice and Welfare Council (JJWC) funding support for the establishment of Bahay Pag-asa in Cagayan de Oro City. The project aims to protect Children in Conflict with the Law (CICL), he pointed out.
The Power learned that the project has an approved budget of P8.6 million for 2017 as stipulated in the Rules and Regulations of R.A. 9344, as amended by R.A. 10630.
According to Sabuga-a, in order to acquire funding support from the national government in the amount of P10 million, a resolution from the Sangguniang Panlungsod is necessary.
It was learned that Bahay Pag-asa will be constructed in a 10,000 square meter lot in Maitum, Upper Puerto, which was donated to the city government.
Sabuga-a said the area is accessible to community facilities and will meet the basic needs of children.
Councilor Daba said the City Council has assured that it will support young Kagay-anons through legislations.
“Kanang atong mga kabataan paningkamotan nga mahatagan og saktong reformation… ang City Council naghatag og suporta pinaagi sa pag-approve sa budget,” Daba stressed.
