Ocon cmte acts on concerns of urban poor folk


COUNCILOR Zaldy O. Ocon, chair of the City Council committee on urban and rur

al poor and housing development, this month conducted a public hearing and various ocular inspections in some barangays in response to concerns and complaints of urban poor residents.

Last Friday, his committee and representatives of city government agencies successfully conducted a public hearing in Barangay F.S. Catanico. This is in relation to the proposed establishment of a new city memorial park in the said barangay.

The site is located at Zone 5 at the said barangay with an area of 6.3 hectares, which is accessible through an existing concrete road network, The Power learned.

During the public hearing, residents living near proposed cemetery project interposed no objection to the proposal. According to them, they will no longer have to go to neighboring barangays to burry their deceased family members.

The only concern of the residents is the possible contamination of the water system in the area.

Representatives of City Local Environment and Natural Resources (CLENRO), DENR, and other agencies informed the residents that the water system will be safe and will not be affected.

OCULAR INSPECTIONS

On February 14, 2017, Councilor Ocon led the ocular inspections in Barangays Bayabas, Camaman-an and Bulua.

The inspection in Barangay Bayabas is in response to the request of the residents for assistance to solve their problem on the pathway, which was blocked by the owner of the lot.

In Barangay Camaman-an, the committee conducted inspection in relation to the road right-of-way concern of the Dreamland Association .

Meanwhile, the inspection in Barangay Bulua is in connection with the letter request of some residents at Pinikitan regarding the complaint of the members of United Basakan Residents Association.
